Club Brugge's nine-match winning run ended in a 1–1 home draw against Anderlecht, despite a dominant share of possession and chances at Jan Breydel. Hans Vanaken was making his 500th appearance in Belgium's top division, and the captain looked set to mark the landmark with victory when he scored in the 41st minute. Cheveyo Tsawa supplied the pass during his first league start, rewarding the hosts for a first half in which their midfield had gradually imposed itself on the visitors.

The decisive moment

Anderlecht were second best in the attacking exchanges but remained close enough to recover. Their equaliser came in the 58th minute, when Mihajlo Cvetković finished from the centre of the penalty area after a delivery credited to goalkeeper Colin Coosemans. It was an unusual assist and a reminder that Brugge's one-goal advantage had offered little security. The visitors could now protect a draw rather than open up in search of an equaliser.

How the game finished

Brugge responded with greater urgency, introducing fresh players and winning repeated corners as they pressed around the Anderlecht box. Coosemans dealt with the attempts that reached him while the visiting defence protected the central spaces. Brugge had chances to restore their advantage, but could not find the precise final action that would have extended their remarkable winning sequence. Anderlecht's resilience grew more valuable as the minutes disappeared.

The numbers and the verdict

The statistical difference was substantial: Brugge held 67% possession, produced twenty-four shots against seven and put eight on target to Anderlecht's one. The xG estimate also favoured the hosts, roughly 1.52 to 0.74. Vanaken's milestone and his goal were the central home stories, but Cvetković's efficiency decided the outcome. Brugge remained in the title race with a point rather than three, while Anderlecht left a difficult away fixture with a result that rewarded defensive patience.
