Brazilian Série A 2026 recent results

How the Brazilian Série A works in 2026

The Brasileirão is the top flight of Brazil's national football pyramid, run by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF). Twenty clubs share a single league table. Each plays 19 rivals twice, once at home and once away, across 38 rounds. A win earns three points, a draw one, and a loss none. The club that finishes first is the league champion; there is no separate championship final.

The 2026 season runs from 28 January to 2 December. Its league results feed the 2027 CONMEBOL qualification race: four initial Copa Libertadores group-stage places are assigned to the top four and a preliminary-round place to fifth. The Copa do Brasil also awards two Libertadores places, including one to its runner-up. When teams qualify through more than one route, the CBF regulation governs how unused national places pass to the next eligible club. The displayed league position alone therefore cannot guarantee the final continental entry list.

The four lowest-ranked clubs (17th–20th) are relegated to Série B. Other qualifying clubs can reach Copa Sudamericana, subject to the final continental allocation and any reassignments. When clubs finish level on points, the CBF's official tiebreak criteria apply, rather than an invented head-to-head rule. Fixtures, results and standings shown above are provider-backed; this explanatory guide does not claim that a club has clinched a place before the outcome is confirmed.

  2. Final table

Three points for a win; every league result counts

  3. Continental qualification

How the standings work

Brazilian Série A awards 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Clubs share one 20-team table over 38 rounds; the highest points total determines the champion and the bottom four are relegated. In 2026, CONMEBOL qualification follows CBF rules, including Copa do Brasil results and possible reallocation of places. Tied teams are ordered by official CBF tiebreak criteria.

Official sources

Competition format and governance context is checked against the primary sources below. Live fixtures, results and standings come from BetLogic’s football data.

What makes the Brazilian Série A different

  • Brazilian Série A and Italian Serie A are separate competitions: API-Football league 71 belongs to Brazil, while league 135 belongs to Italy.
  • The 2026 Brasileirão runs across the calendar year, unlike the main August-to-May European league cycle. Both still play 38 rounds, so season-year labels must not be mixed.
  • CBF's 2026 Copa Libertadores allocation starts with four direct group-stage places and one preliminary place through the Brasileirão. Copa do Brasil and continental routes can change which league positions finally qualify.
  • Four clubs are relegated from Brazil's top flight. Form and table position matter at both ends of a single national league table.

Common questions

Is Brazil's Série A the same as the Italian Serie A?
No. The Brasileirão is Brazil's national top flight (API-Football ID 71). The Italian Serie A is a separate competition (ID 135). Each has its own standings, fixtures, clubs and qualification rules.
How many matches are played in the 2026 Brasileirão and how is the title decided?
Each of the 20 clubs plays 38 matches, 19 at home and 19 away. The club with the most points after the final round is champion; there is no championship play-off.
Who qualifies for the 2027 Copa Libertadores and who is relegated?
Under the original 2026 league allocation, places 1–4 enter the 2027 Libertadores group stage and fifth enters the preliminary rounds. Copa do Brasil and CONMEBOL outcomes can reassign national berths to other eligible clubs. Positions 17–20 are relegated to Série B.
